CTZN 110

My Citizen 110 course is another that was an extremely unique experience. This class required me to look at/think about art in new ways. I had not often considered the meaning behind art prior to this course because I believed that much of art’s true meaning can only be known by the creator. However, in this course we were challenged to create or find examples of art and establish our own meanings. We would all take turns presenting these pieces in class, and before the artist could speak, the group would spend about ten minutes discussing their interpretations.

CTZN Final Presentation-2

This presentation is my final project for this class in which we had to pick to pieces of art we would like to include in a museum exhibit about citizenship. The first piece is a collection of photos of the maintenance workers of New York City. This piece exemplified citizenship to me because the artist was able to create better funding for the maintenance program by declaring their work performance art, which one them a grant. The second piece is a selection of photos from a collection which depicts some of the mysteries of America. This exemplifies citizenship as it shows how American citizens are united in the things we may not know about in our country.
