Theatre 101 was my biggest fear going into my first semester. I am by no means creative, artistic, or outgoing. Thankfully, this course was mostly lecture. Along with learning technical theatre terms, the process of the theatre, and history of theatre, we learned about modern day practices and we even got to work on creative projects and attend the two plays produced by Longwood in the fall. Attending these plays was a requirement for the class, but I am glad I was able to experience my peers produce an excellent outcome after many hours of hard work. We learned a lot about the Greek and European history of the theatre and that was the most interesting topic to me. We also read a play as a class and had many analytical discussions about it. There were very few occasions where we acted in class, but when we did it was optional until the end of the semester. We were eventually required to write and act out a play with a small group from the class. This was more fun than I thought it would be, but acting is still definitely not my calling.
