Spanish 211: Integrated Language & Culture I

This course was a challenge, from classroom set up to the content of the course, but the thing I appreciated the most was the collaboration between students on projects, study groups, and even in class assignments. The content of the course was not always presented in a clear or easy to understand way, but us students helped one another succeed in many ways. Collaborating to make the content clear and relevant displayed Citizen Leadership in my eyes. We pushed through a challenging semester, in more ways than one, to develop an understanding of Spanish and Latin cultures and the language on many levels. The biggest takeaways from this class were the cultural connections we made and learned about. Things as simple as drink flavors, toys, and colors were unexpectedly different in other cultures, but those things stuck in our minds and lead us to analyze and critically think about seemingly simple things in our lives.

Attached is a portion of the final project. This project was based on research from Spanish speaking countries and the conditions of their environment. This is a poster that was designed to raise awareness of a specific deforestation issue in Brazil’s Amazon.
