Spanish 111
I took this class with Professor Seiple during the Fall of 2019. Throughout this class, we learned basic Spanish vocabulary and conversational skills. We also learned about the cultures of many Spanish speaking countries and were able to watch videos and read about their many different traditions.
Through this class, I feel that I really came out of my shell and tried to participate as much as possible. I realized very quickly that the best way to learn a language is to just throw yourself into it and talk. Professor Seiple had a strict “no English” rule during class and I feel that I benefitted a lot from it. I feel that I really was pushed into learning all kinds of vocabulary so that I could properly communicate with my classmates. In the end, I feel like I really learned a lot of Spanish and I am definitely more comfortable speaking it.
Towards the end of the class, we were to choose a country and find a tradition that people did not know very well and talk about it. My partner and I chose Colombia and we discussed the second largest carnival in the world, The Carnaval de Barranquilla. We had a lot of fun making this project and we found out a lot about the culture of Colombia. It was also very interesting to see how much vocabulary we had actually learned and were able to use during this project.
