Purpose: Students will learn professional growth and development skills necessary to execute their craft through writing, reflection and discussion.
Knowledge: While APIE and other RT concepts are essential skills, learning to be a professional is also important. To help you do that, as a class, we will read Atomic Habits by James Clear (2018) and hold weekly book club meetings to discuss how to make 1% improvements one-day-at-a-time, we can develop productive, professional skills that will last a lifetime.
Task:
- Read Chapters 10-13.
- Write a blog post in narrative (paragraph) format replying to the following questions:
- Leisure education is used with virtually every RT client. Using the idea of increasing friction towards bad habits and decreasing friction toward good ones, explain how you might use this concept in the facilitation of RT services with a client from your mentor’s agency.
- Consider your own work habits. How might you use the two-minute rule to stop procrastinating in your work?
Criteria for Success:
Learning Outcome: Completed Blog Post The student completed a reflective writing blog post according to the assignment description to include replying to all questions in a narrative (paragraph) format.

Learning Outcome: Attendance & Participation The student was on time to the book club meeting, attended the entire session, and participated actively and independently in the discussion/activities presented.
