Due Date: June 21, 2020
Purpose: Develop the skills and techniques common to the practice of therapeutic recreation which includes the application of evidence-based practice in the execution of the TR Process in order to meet client, agency, and/or stakeholder needs. The student will learn how to develop a foreground clinical question (PICOT statement) addressing an identified problem area.
Knowledge: The student will utilize resources and tutorials provided to develop a PICOT statement which will drive their course project. Students/mentors should note that although the sources refer to “patients” and “clinical settings”, PICOT can be used in any RT setting/population.
Use the following resources to help develop your PICOT statement:
- “PICOT” (Slippery Rock University Bailey Library, 2020)
- “Asking a well-built clinical question” (UNC Health Sciences Library, 2020)
- “PICO Search Development Worksheet” (UNC Health Sciences Library, 2020)
- “PICO(T) Template and Examples” (UNC Health Sciences Library, 2020)
Task: After reviewing all the sources listed above along with all the agency data gathered thus far, the student will develop a PICO(T) statement or foreground research question focused upon the mentor-approved problem area. To submit, the student will post their PICO(T) in their blog under the tab titled “Problem/Project Identification”. It should include 2 versions. Firstly, broken down P, I, C, O, T. Secondly, the student will compile all components into a coherent statement.
*Please note: An in-person (Zoom, call, etc.) meeting with the student’s mentor is required to complete this assignment.
Criteria for Success: The student must receive both mentor and instructor approval before proceeding to literature review. Approval will be given in the comments after the post.
