When I first obtained my first class schedule, I knew I would at some point be taking an English class, but I assumed it would be either World Literature, American Literature, or British Literature. However, I was placed in what is called “Special Topics English”, where the professor selects the primary focus of the class. At first, I was uneasy and afraid that the professor would pick a painful selection of literature; I was very relieved when I received news that the topic of the class was Harry Potter. It was such a fun class. We mostly focused on the various themes throughout Harry Potter and how the books tie into citizen leadership. Looking back on the class, I wish there had been enough time to read and break down all seven books since we only covered the second, third, and fifth books. The artifact below is the second journal I wrote on October 30, 2017 where I analyzed Order of the Pheonix and wrote my thoughts about the book. After reading the assignment a semester later, I now think I should have included more about how Harry and his friends acquired more and more agency as the story goes on. Going forward, I will hopefully recognize all the themes and different aspects I learned the next time I read the series.
This is Journal 2 written on October 30, 2017 analyzing Order of the Phoenix.
