This course, BIOL 250, introduced the molecular mechanisms that are responsible for cell growth and maintenance, cellular reproduction and genetics, DNA replication and regulation, and cell signaling. BIOL 250 is one of two core introductory courses in the biology curriculum and thus aims to provide a strong foundation in “all things cellular” for Longwood’s biology students. This course was offered with an honors attribute so the lab portion of the class worked on a semester-long research project to be presented at the honor’s college session at Longwood’s Spring Research Symposium. We began this project with a proposal and annotated bibliography, which is shown below. I personally enjoyed this class because it pulled together many topics from other courses I had already completed, such as chemistry and physiology. I look forward to expanding upon the foundation built in this class in future molecular and cellular biology courses.
