GNED 400: Conflicts VA Places and Pasts

GNED 400 was a very interactive class that revolved around class discussions, readings, and field trips that took the class throughout Virginia to explore various historical sites. The course description stated that GNED 400 “engages students in the critical analysis of a contemporary issue relevant to democratic citizenship.” Students were expected to participate in class discussions, analyze assigned readings, and interpret the controversial historical background of Virginia.

GNED 400 was very different from any other course I have taken at Longwood. We traveled to various locations around Virginia throughout the semester, read written works that were extremely different from any readings I have read in other courses, and participated in class discussions that guided the direction of our class.
