I took HONS MUSC 225 with Dr. Schattenkirk in the Fall of 2021 semester. This class focused on music from a variety of cultures and places while also connecting it to geography, culture, and history.
Throughout the semester, we listened to music from all over the world and had discussions about the different instruments used by each culture. We also talked about how the music and instruments have changed throughout time. As honors students we were also asked to make connections between the instruments/music of different places as well as make connections to how this music affected each culture. One of the projects we did in this class was to research and write about a tradition/style that was not covered in our textbook. I chose to write about French chanson or songs.
