Conferences

  • ACDA(American Choral Directors Association) South Regional Conference 2020
    • I was able to attend this conference in Mobile, Alabama in March of 2020. This conference was cut short due to COVID but I was still able to greatly benefit from it. I was able to watch performances from groups of multiple ages. I was also able to attend interest sessions where researchers present to a small group and are able to answer questions and present some of their findings. This research is very important to me as it is something I will often need to know/use in my future classroom. I was able to learn and experience many things that will be important for my future classroom and my future students in only a few days at this conference. Below is a photo of me at the conference with other Longwood students.
  • ACDA South Regional Conference 2022
    • I was able to attend this conference in Raleigh, North Carolina in February of 2022. This was the first big conference that this organization was able to host since the last one had finished early due to COVID. This conference helped me to further my understanding of many things we had talked about at the last conference as well as what we had talked about in classes. I had more time at this conference to talk to some of the researchers and get some more information about their research that they had not gone as in depth into with their presentations. This was a great experience for me as I hope to be able to present at these conferences one day and it was great to be able to see past teachers of mine present as well. Below are some pictures of the event and some of the research/posters I was able to see.

Poster Presentations

  • Longwood Fall Research Day 2019
    • My first poster presentation was during the fall of 2019, my freshman year. Being able to present at such an early session was very helpful for me going forward. I was able to figure out what needs to be done when and I was able to do this poster session with a group. We worked on a project in my CTZN 110 class and although it was not required, my group was encouraged to turn our project into a poster and present it at the poster sessions. I was able to connect the research that we did in class, based on standardized testing, and connect it to my future job as a teacher. Above is a photo of my group around our poster at the poster session.
  • Longwood Spring Research Day 2020
    • My freshman year I was also able to present at the Spring Research Showcase. Although this got moved online, I was still able to make a video presenting my poster through zoom. The final poster is linked below. The research I presented was based on the ACDA South Regional Conference that I attended. I did much of my research based on sessions that I attended but also added to the research with outside sources. Doing this presentation was odd because it had to be through zoom but I was able to work closely with my professor to ensure that I was still able to fully present my research. Doing this poster session helped me to round out my poster skills which allowed me to focus more on my presentation of the poster.
    • Spring Showcase 2020
  • Longwood Spring Research Day 2021
    • Every year, the music department does a performance at the Spring Research Showcase with sophomores who will be doing their sophomore promotional that semester. I was able to participate in this performance in Spring of 2021. The performance was live-streamed and each student gave a five minute presentation of research about the composer and the piece we were performing. Then we performed the piece that we had talked about. This presentation was a great help as I was able to practice talking about it in front of people to practice for my graded presentation at the end of the semester. It also helped me work on my memory of the information. Linked below is an earlier performance of the piece I performed at the showcase.
    • Spring Research 2021 Practice Performance
  • Longwood Spring Research Day 2022
    • In the spring of 2022, I was unable to attend the Spring Research Showcase as I was performing at the Strathmore with Longwood Advanced Singers. However, I was able to record a presentation on the research I had done and present it to faculty and students in choir and the rest of the music department. The research I presented was based on the ACDA South Regional 2022 Conference. Much of my research was done at the conference by watching presentations, talking to researchers, and looking at posters. I was also able to add to my research using information from other sessions , available through the ACDA app, as well as from articles I found through the ACDA website. Linked below is the video of my presentation as well as the poster with all of my research on it.
