My senior seminar ended with me passing by the skin of my teeth. I had failed an early essay and missed a few reading quizzes due to oversleeping. However, I ultimately pulled through due to the monumental effort I put into my senior-level presentation at the research showcase. This was unlike any project I had ever done before. Sure, I had written plenty of papers and given my fair share of presentations, but the level of expected work, and the fact that I basically got to choose whatever I wanted to write about and then just had to successfully and professionally present my argument, it was a completely new experience. And in truth, I really enjoyed it. It gave me the idea that perhaps I might not just be a fiction writer, but also a literary critic or researcher in my future, and that my potential submissions for publication could include analytical writings as well as creative ones, and I feel that this was probably the greatest moment I experienced of professional development.
