I came into this class almost arrogant, after all my years of Scouting and camping had well prepared me for everything we would do in this class. I knew how to orienteer, rock climb, canoe, and was familiar with many of the team-building and leadership exercises and lessons. However, I was actually surprised by how surface level my knowledge was, and was able to learn a lot more through this class. For the Honors section, we were required to go deeper into outdoor adventure, and we would’ve had to do a service project of some sorts, but because of the quarantine, all we had time for was our two book reports on the literature of outdoor adventure. For my first report, I chose to read (or rather listen to on audible) a book I had long wanted to read, The Old Man and the Sea. It was a great experience, and taught me a lot about willpower, and represented what I loved most about nature, the solidarity of it and communing with the beings of nature.
