In the Fall of 2020 I took an honors course called Media and Democracy. This class was a lot of reading and discussion which I am usually pretty good with, however my instructor was pretty unorganized and it was difficult to stay on track each class.
We had to write two large papers, one for the midterm and one for the final. For my final paper, I wanted to earn an A so I spent several hours researching, writing, and editing it before sending it to my professor to check over. He gave me lots of corrections and had me make many clarifications on my points since it was an opinion piece. I felt confident that my changes would put me in excellent shape for the final draft. I was so upset when I had only earned an 89, giving me an A- as my final grade in the course. I wrote to my professor and questioned the grade, since I fixed everything he had asked me to. He replied saying that he rarely gives A’s, and that my grade was highest in the course. I was incredibly frustrated and to make matters worse, he said that it makes sense that it was difficult for me since I am a science major.
Needless to say, this course was a struggle for me and left me pretty upset. I think this course has just taught me that sometimes even your best work is not good enough, and you have to move on.
I have linked my final opinion piece here.
