Biography

My name is Cecily Hayek and I am currently a Biology major at Longwood University. I am a member of the Pre-professional Health Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, President of Women in STEM, a Longwood Ambassador, and a sister of Alpha Delta Pi. My main goal in life is to be able to work with animals. As of right now, I have aspirations to attend veterinary school. I have known for a while that I wanted to become a veterinarian, and after attending classes my first year, it has become very clear to me that it is exactly what I want.

Animals have always been a large part of me, and have helped me become a caring and compassionate person. Combining this love for animals with my love for science made picking what I want to be when I grow up really easy. I knew that finding a university like Longwood would really help me be able to make my dreams come true. After applying to and getting accepted into the LIFE STEM program, I knew I was going to love it here.

Joining the Pre-Professional Health Society was one of the best decisions that I have made at college so far. My favorite activity so far with the club was the guest speaker from Campbell University. She told us all about admissions and the medical program. I was really interested in learning about the program, even though it is not necessarily what I want to do. I am really glad that I joined and am excited to learn more and create more friendships. I became a member of Alpha Delta Pi in the spring, and I am so thankful that I did. I have met so many people that want to excel in school and that want to give back to the community.

I am currently planning my study abroad trip as well and I am excited to be able to explore a new place, wherever that may be. I am really hoping to be able to travel to Ecuador and the Amazon Rainforest.
