In the fall of 2018, I took Biology 120 Honors. I am a biology major and it is by far my favorite subject. This course was only an introductory course but I actually really enjoyed it. Our professor had us submit assignments as drafts and receive feedback before submitting our final papers for each section of the report. I had seen systems similar to this before, but I never found that the feedback was enough to really help my scientific writing.
The artifact I chose for this course is actually a final draft of the results section to a lab report. I had to revise a lot on this specific draft because my rough draft was a mess. I tried to follow the guidelines given to me but it just wasn’t good. After seeing the corrections and even looking at published papers, I was able to make the right revisions. This class taught me a lot about having to be wrong before you can be right. The process of turning in a rough draft really made me feel even more proud after the final draft because I could physically see the work that I put into something.
One of my final drafts of a results section is linked here. I wrote this on October 12, 2019.
