Psychology 101 has been one of my favorite classes that I have taken at Longwood. The class’s primary focus was on scientific theories, methods, and evidence used in psychology to understand mental processes and behavior. The class was lecture-based with a quiz every week. I appreciated being quizzed every week because it kept me constantly learning about the new material for the upcoming week. I think classes truly depend on what you think of the professor. Professor Tambra Riggs-Guitérrez was excellent at keeping the classes encaged in class and encouraging coming to her office hours. I would attend her office hours weekly not only to get help on the topics and what to prepare for the tests and quizzes but because I really appreciated the conversations we had.
Psychology 101 had a research paper component on either a topic we had covered or a topic we were going to cover in the chapters. I did my paper on “Does having an antisocial personality disorder lead people to commit criminal acts.” Five scholar websites were required for the paper an a presentation of what I wrote my paper on. This paper opened my eyes to what antisocial personality disorder truly is. My paper discussed what an antisocial personality disorder is, what Childhood predictors are for people with this disorder, partner violence in relationships, how you should treat criminals when prosecuted either hospitalization or prison, and what people with this disorder are like in prison. After this paper, I did a five-minute presentation to the class about what I learned while writing this paper. Attached is the research paper I wrote.
