Scientific Reasoning

PSYC 101

Introduction to Psychology was by far my #1 favorite course in Freshman year. My mom has her Ph.D. in Psychology and I would love to have a second minor in the subject, too (unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible for Nursing majors to achieve this minor due to scheduling conflicts). Dr. Carkenord taught my section and he was also my favorite professor of Freshman year. His teaching style was simple to follow, he was incredibly easy to talk to and ask questions, he made each lecture interactive, and he brought candy to us every Friday! Dr. Carkenord even used a psychology tool in our class by incentivizing students to attend his class every Friday, which is typically the most missed day, by giving us candy and an extra credit point. This is called positive reinforcement. At the end of his course, he had each of his students take a 5-point personality test which he instructed us to use as guidance to make small improvements in our personal attitudes. Linked below is a copy of my reflection paper. Dr. Carkenord’s class was cut short due to COVID, but I still looked forward to seeing his interative and entertaining PowerPoints each week. His smile and constant positivity could always reasure me!
