ENGL 215

This course fulfilled my Historical and Contemporary Insights pillar for the Civitae curriculum. Taught by Dr. Hursey, this “Land of the Free” course taught American history through a diverse range of literary readings. While I had previously learned a majority of this historical content in high school, I was newly enlightened to what it was like to live in the shoes of the people during those times.

There were many, many readings that I had to complete throughout the semester, but all of them were enjoyable. Dr. Hursey did an excellent job during lectures explaining hidden meanings and pointing out where freedom was or wasn’t present. For our final paper, we were tasked with comparing and contrasting aspects of freedom with settings for three different literary works. Linked below is my final paper.
