COMM 101
Introduction to Public Speaking is one of the few courses offered at Longwood that fulfills the Aesthetic Expressions Pillar and is not an artistic- or theatrical-based course (both of which I would fail if I took them). While I believed myself to be a generally decent public speaker, I knew that there was room for improvement. My most noticeable flaw is talking too fast. I often do this in general with my friends and family, but I forget that when I am speaking professionally I need to slow down. Also, this class reminded me of the importance of practicing your speech ahead of time to memorize it because then it is easier to talk slower. This course was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and students were sent home from Longwood to continue learning virtually. Professor Sweet (yes, that is her real name), was very patient with her students as we learned how to record, edit, and upload our speeches online. Attached below is a link to one of my funnier public speaking presentations.
