This course explored gender inequality and oppression in different media mediums. WGST 115 was discussion based so we spent most of class listening to other people’s view points and opinions which was very interesting. This course also taught me a lot about sexuality, gender identity, biological sex, and gender expression. I personally did not know much about some of those things so this class and Dr. Waggoner really helped me find a better understanding. Another important discussion topic that we often talked about was the change of female representation in film, the film industry, and other media platforms. Women are still under portrayed but the film industry has come leaps and bounds compared to where the film industry once started. The attached artifact was my final paper on interesectionality in the film Hairspray. The artifact explores how race, socioeconomic status, and gender effects the way an individual is portrayed in the media.
