HIST 100 – Foundations of Western Civilizations
Foundations of Western Civ…. oh that class… To say the least, Wester Civ was not my favorite class I took my first semester of freshman year. I’m more of a science type of person, so history is just not my strong suit. This class was completely different than what I was used to. We had to take notes just from lecture and that was something that I majorly struggled with. All of my other professors had powerpoints or we were told to take notes on the textbook before class. This was not the case for this class, though, because the textbook did not match what was being talked about in lecture. This discouraged me from reading the textbook because I didn’t want to waste time reading things that could possibly not be talked about in class that day. However, I had to find some type of way to force myself to read the textbook for this class and that way was through group studying. Normally, I’m absolutely HATE group studying. It just isn’t for everyone and I accepted that, however, I did find it useful for this class. I got together with a fellow honors student that was in my class and we studied together and somehow it worked. This class taught me that even though you may not like something, everything ends up working out in the end. Attached below is an essay discussing the significance of the Oppian Law for women’s rights in the Roman Republic.
