BIOL 250

BIOL 250-50 – Honors Introduction to Genetics and Cell Biology

This class was by far my favorite class I took second semester freshman year! I especially loved the lab time we had over the semester. My lab partner and I were able to plan our entire semester long research project completely on our own! It was amazing to have this experience so early on in my academic career. A highlight of this honors class is definitely doing this research project. I was able to plan from start to finish how I wanted everything to happen, collect the data, and present the data. I learned to not take everything so seriously, especially if you have to jump into a muddy river to get your samples :). As an honors student, I was able to isolate eight different bacteria and send them off for sequencing. I was then able to take these eight sequences and identify what bacteria they were by using the NCBI database. Dr. Barber was especially helpful throughout this experience. She was there whenever we needed help and always provided feedback on our project. She is just another reason that I know it was the right decision to be an honors student at Longwood. She also was there to guide us in writing a full lab report and make a poster displaying our research. Attached below is my lab report and finished poster.
