This class was my second Honors course here at Longwood. One of the things that first made this class stand out to me was that it was at six o’clock at night and lasted almost three hours.
This class was new for everyone, it was my professor’s first time teaching it and I was my first time as a student learning it. The class was very interactive, our professor, Ms. Martelli strongly encouraged discussion and would give us in class activities to work with the material we were learning.
Over the course, we learned about all stages of development during early childhood all the way through adolescence. During the whole semester we had a project in which we had to pick three individuals from different developmental stages to interview. This project was meant to help us observe the different stages of development between early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence. I chose to observe cognitive, physical, and social development of a four, ten, and fifteen year old. Below is my final presentation of my Three Ages Project.
This project really help me realize how different environments can affect a child’s development. Before this class I did not know how prominent the differences in development were. This class really helped me understand the norms for development in children and what is not normal which will really help me in my career as a nurse. I will be able to easily recognize if a child is having problems in their development because of this class.
