Math 300: Proofs

I took proofs with Dr. Boyle my spring 2020 semester. Honestly, I was worried about this course since it was a 300 level math class and I had already struggled with some lower-level math courses. However, I quickly got the hang of it and I learned to love proofs. The first few days were intimidating because the material was like learning a foreign language but after a while, I got the hang of it and found it was quite fascinating. Dr. Boyle had a nice way of teaching but when classes went online the class became difficult quick. But, I managed to stay afloat and learn some cool proofs techniques that I’m excited to expand upon come Modern Algebra!

This is one of the last few assignments I did for this class. When I first started it it looked impossible because the problems were new information to me and I had not seen it worked out before. One of the things I did like about this project was the computer program we used to type it. I’ve only taken one computer programming class and while at times it could get tough, I still found it very interesting. So, using this program to type the math language was pretty fun. After working on this project for what felt like hours, with a lot of help from Dr. Boyle, it finally got done. Just like all of the hard work I put into this class to finally be done!

HONS 495: Love, Sex, and Friendship

I took Love, Sex, and Friendship with Dr. Blincoe my spring 2020 semester and I loved it. I enrolled in LSF after taking Markets and Morals with Dr. Blincoe because I loved the class so much. LSF ended up being just as great as I imagined, except for corona kicking us out of class! I learned so much valuable psychological information involving different forms of love that I found so interesting. Just like Markets and Morals, this class involved lots of reading but it was all interesting material so it was fun to read. I read our book Symposium with my roommate just because I wanted to be able to discuss the material with her as I read it. The material in this course it very enriching and I would recommend it to anyone interested.

The paper I attached was probably one of my favorite assignments. We were asked to do thorough research on the topic of love and how to have a happy marriage. I think this paper prompt was perfect for someone like me that likes to be creative with their work instead of making it like a dissertation. It was so much fun to write and read for my family!

HONS 320: Markets and Morals

I took Dr. Blincoe’s Markets and Morals class my fall 2019 semester. When the class was introduced on the first day of class I was weary because it involved a lot of reading and I’m not a big reader. However, as the course went on I began to enjoy the material we were learning and the reading became easier. I really loved the way Dr. Blincoe taught the class because it made topics like democracy, economic classes, etc., quite interesting to learn. I’m glad I took the class because it taught me things I was never taught in high school that I feel like I needed to know about. For example, it was intimidating on the first day when he mentioned socialism because I had never even been taught what socialism was.

Overall, I recommend this class to anyone interested in honors or even those not in honors who want to learn something interesting. I once told Dr. Blincoe I really enjoy his classes because being a math major means you’re doing math all day every day and a nice mental break from math to learn something new is very refreshing.

The paper I attached is one of my three personal reflections. This paper was answering the question of “what is a ‘good life’ to you?” I really liked these papers because they allowed us to really think about it and we were given a good grade no matter what our opinion was as long as it was sound and met the given requirements. I personally do not mind papers but I tend to be more creative than proper. Hence, I would much rather write a paper like this than a research paper!
