Correspondence

In these documents, I was able to learn how to effectively communicate with an imagined audience. In my Bad News Letter, I was able to give bad news through positive language. This is seen when I say, “I can also make sure that Common Street is the first street to be worked on once they start filling potholes on that side of the city.” This allowed my audience to understand that something could not be done right away but it would be done as soon as possible.

In my Persuasive Letter, I learned how to grab the attention of the reader. This was done in the first paragraph of the letter when I say, “Within the past few years, fitness has become an increased hobby amongst people from all around the world. Most of these fitness enthusiasts also enjoy traveling and when doing so, like to continue their fitness routines.” In this part, I was able to give some context of the persuasion, which would help my audience understand what the rest of my letter would include.

The course outcomes that I completed with these letters are:

  1. Analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world
  2. Create professional documents that use plain English

These were the most prominent for learning because these types of letters are found in professional settings. These types of letters allow for news to be given to an audience in a way that is both informative and positive. When writing in these styles, I was able to use concise and clear language to help me have my audience understand the information being provided to them.
