HONS 495 – Sustainable Brain for Global Change

Sustainable Brain for Global Change

I took HONS 495: Sustainable Brain for Global Change with Dr. Justin Ellis in the Spring semester of 2019. This course was completely different than anything else I had ever taken before, but it was a pleasant change in the scheme of things. Instead of focusing on lectures, it was more so based off of readings and personal discussions while in class meetings. The goals of the course were more difficult when we had to transition to an all online format. The course focused on sustainable behaviors and the best way to address behavior change. Towards the end of the course, we began to focus on a sustainability issue on campus that we could potentially change in the future by starting a campaign. Due to the circumstances, we were unable to accomplish all of our goals, but we did make a survey that could potentially go out to students in the future. The purpose of the survey is to collect data so that we will later be able to make a more specific campaign towards the goals of students based upon their current behaviors. Throughout the course, I learned a lot about the psychology of behavior change and many current sustainability issues, how they affect the environment, and in most cases, why they are a predominant issue.

The following artifact from the course is the survey that, as a class, we had put together in order to find more about students’ reusable water bottle habits in order to reduce plastic bottle use on campus.
