Formal Report

One of the last projects in our course was to work with a group to create a Formal Report. The purpose of the Formal Report was to inform, analyze, interpret and persuade. Our group chose to take the role of Better Designs Inc. (website design company) who has been commissioned to analyze three high school websites for the creation of a new website for Willcot County Public Schools. We chose to analyze Langley High School, Buckingham County High School and Prince Edward County High School based upon their presentation, accessibility and content. We came up with the three areas to analyze based upon our survey we gave to 100 people. After analyzing, we came up with recommendations for Willcot County Public Schools for their creation of a website for their new high school. One of the course outcomes I will link this assignment to is number 5 (practice oral communication skills to present content effectively). As a group, we condensed our information into a power point to give to the class, who was acting as Willcot County Public Schools. We were able to use our oral communication skills to present the analyses and recommendations to the class.  Another course outcome I will link this assignment to is course outcome number 6 (participate productively in collaborative projects). As a group, we had to communicate and meet several times per week in order to create the report. We learned how to properly collaborate to create minutes for each meeting and effectively split up each section of the project to do on our own and come together to format it. Another course outcome I will link this assignment to is course outcome number 3 (conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents) as we had to conduct research on each website to come up with the analyses. This assignment allowed me to enhance my collaboration skills while also being able to present research based upon the information we found.
