Introduction

Hello, I am Kristin Wilcox and I am a senior at Longwood University. I am currently studying Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Special Education.  I plan on attending graduate school to get my Master’s to become a speech-language pathologist. My career goals include becoming a speech-language pathologist in a hospital setting while working with the geriatric population with a specialty in swallowing disorders. I have been interested in this field since I entered college. I first came to Longwood University as an athletic training major, but quickly changed interests when I shadowed a speech-language pathologist in a rehabilitation center to learn more about the profession. Since the day I shadowed the SLP, I have had an avid interest in helping others with communication disorders who come from different backgrounds. I have strong leadership abilities and I am a motivated student who understands the importance of succeeding in and out of the classroom.

Purpose and content of my ePortfolio

The purpose of this ePortfolio is to showcase my assignments I have completed through the English 470 Professional Writing Skills course. As you will see throughout this ePortfolio, I have attached some of the works I have completed that represent my abilities to write professionally. These assignments include a correspondence, brochure, press release and a formal report. I have explained in each section of the ePortfolio how these assignments have helped me build skills to succeed in professional writing. I will use these skills I have learned in this course throughout my future endeavors.  This course has given me the opportunity to produce writing assignments I have never completed before and collaborate and communicate with others for a variety of projects. I was able to build communication skills and effectively produce documents that represent professional writing. I have connected each of these assignments to course objectives which are listed below.
