As a Social Work major, I love service, making change and doing good! Before classes started, CHC put aside a week for an honors retreat to give the new students a chance to meet new people, get a feel of the campus and have fun. But we also had activities geared towards our three pillars: scholarship, community and service. When my group showed up at our service spot, our hosts said they were not expecting us! We told them about our service day and put us right to work! This day is so special to me because of how much fun we had together as a group and with our hosts while also providing a service to a local business in Farmville. CHC puts so much emphasis on helping others whether it be with local businesses, clubs, CHC events or with other students. While service is a great thing to put on résumés, the students in CHC don’t see it as a résumé builder- it’s simply lending a helping hand to a friend and it comes second nature to them.
Attached is a photo of my service group and our hosts!
