About Me

Hi!! My name is Sydney Walsh! I am from Richmond, Virginia and I am a rising sophomore at Longwood University with a major in Social Work. I plan to pursue my master’s degree in Social Work at Longwood University when the master’s program is up and running. I am also planning to obtain my Social Work license soon after.

For a long time, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. All I knew was that I wanted to be successful and happy in my job. When I was younger, I wanted to be a lawyer and a teacher, but throughout my high school career, I wanted to be a psychiatrist. I bought books on psychology and took a class in psychology, but I then realized I wasn’t interested in psychology at all. The only thing that all of my “dream jobs” had in common was that I would be helping people. Having already chosen Longwood as my college, I scrolled through the list of majors and minors to see what jumped out at me and I saw Social Work. I read the description and googled it, and it was exactly what I was looking for.

I am still getting acquainted with the field of Social Work with the help of my courses and my professors at Longwood, so I do not know what population at risk I would want to work with. I am interested in being an International Social Worker in which I would work for an NGO (non-governmental organization) and my population at risk would be those in third-world countries.

Attached is a picture of me and my scarf from the G.A.M.E. at the beginning of my freshmen year!
