Letter to my senior self

Dear Sydney of the Future!

Wow oh wow! Here you are as a senior about to graduate. Remember when you moved into Wheeler freshmen year and it felt like the absolute worst day of your life? And the following month felt like the absolute worst month of your life? Look at you now! Oh how things have changed! Before going to college, you were filled with anxiety and fear of what was to come and what may happen. Girl, you worried about everything! You thought you would fail your classes (or just not be able to find them!) and make no friends. You thought you would forget something at home, so you brought everything! You were extra, extra prepared for whatever Longwood would throw at you, but you weren’t prepared for things to turn out the way they did. You weren’t prepared for your freshmen year to actually be fun and exciting. You made your first friend pretty fast (as a result of some serious puppy dog following) and y’all were inseparable ever since. Your first day at church, you were welcomed by a familiar face and you found a group of amazingly wonderful people. When you started your citizen class, you had a mission to become friends with the girl beside you- well, mission complete!

You went on retreats with the Catholic Campus Ministry, you visited your friend’s hometown and you had day trips to Richmond! You volunteered for the Pregnancy Support Center and helped out with Longwood Life. You got Dean’s List- TWICE! You got your first job and you became the Social Outreach Chair for the Catholic Campus Ministry!! Freshmen year was grrrrreat!

I hope you’re just as strong and ambitious as you are now! Just know that whatever you do, you will be great at it. There is no question that you will make me proud.

Love,

Freshman Sydney <3
