Letter to Senior Self

Dear Senior Self,

First things first: congratulations. You made it. You’re at the end. All those late nights and early mornings were worth it, right? All those hours upon hours of art projects? However, now that it’s all over, don’t stop. Just because you can now go out and start teaching in schools, don’t let that stop your creativity and art. Keep creating new things.

I hope you will have fulfilled your scholarship pillar and graduated with amazing grades and even better knowledge to take away. Do not forget to soak up as much knowledge as you can, even those little facts and snippets that may seem insignificant. As Albert Einstein says, “Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.”

In addition to your knowledge filled brain, hopefully you also filled your time with service. I know you started out diving into the therapeutic volunteering at Heartland Horse Heroes, but I hope you will have found more to involve yourself in. There are so many people out there that can use a helping hand or even a smiling face. Go out and be that person.

This is definitely the hardest for you, but I hope that you will have found some communities to belong to. Do not just dive into your studies and forget about the people around you. You should balance your studies with a healthy social life. I’m proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and joining Chi Alpha, making friends with Kelsey and Lauren. Keep making new friends.

Do not stop that fervor for learning and goal making. Go out and find a job. Work at it with the same passion and zeal as anything in your life. Get that job teaching in a school. Buy a horse. Get married. Always carry with you the knowledge and memories that you made at Longwood University.

I don’t know what the future here holds for you, but I’m sure it will be filled with wonderful memories and great experiences.

Stay joyful,

Sophmore 2020 Kyra
