Every college career has to start somewhere. Some people follow in their parents’ footsteps and attend smaller colleges, while others go on to become a first generation college student and attend large universities. Moving from high school to college is no small milestone in anyone’s life. Choosing the right school can be crucial to future successes. In Virginia alone, there are over 100 colleges and universities, each designed uniquely and differently to suit the needs of thousands of students.
Longwood University had been just one of seven colleges that I visited. I was looking for a small school, preferably in Virginia. I also wanted a school with an exquisite art program. After my first visit to Longwood, I was thrilled with Longwood’s program. Most of the other schools I visited did not put as much effort into their art as Longwood does. Furthermore, I was looking for an honors program that would help me learn as much as I could and that would expand on my college experience. The Cormier Honors College has done just that, while also providing a family-like community to grow in.
I transferred in as a sophomore, so I am part of the class of 2022, majoring in Art Education. Because of my love for art and kids, I am pursing Art Education in order to become an art teacher. Longwood University has a wonderful art program that I am beyond ecstatic to join. Throughout my next three years here, I hope to further my knowledge and understanding in my subject of study.
