For this Pillar, I took a Public Speaking class. I chose this class because one day I hope to be a trauma charge nurse and think I will have to attend meetings and give speeches. I have never really enjoyed speaking in front of people so I was hoping this class would help me gain some confidence in myself. This class was very enjoyable. The teacher was the Dean of the Library and very funny. I was always excited to attend this class. We became a family and were able to laugh and enjoy life together in each class.
Attached is a group powerpoint on skin cancer. We were told to pick any topic of our choosing. We chose skin cancer and did an informative, narrative, and demonstrative speech as our whole speech. Through doing this speech, I learned one of my partners’ dad suffered from melanoma. Also, we incorporated a study of how wearing sunscreen helps prevent the destruction of skin cells versus not wearing sunscreen. It is a topic that is often very overlooked and forgotten about, so it was good to inform the class about it right before we left for summer break.
