I had taken psychology in high school and loved it. I have always enjoyed medical-related topics but especially learning about the brain just because I feel like so much is still to be explored and everyone’s brain is different. My favorite topic we learned about was mental illnesses because I have obsessive-compulsive disorder and enjoy learning more about the different illnesses that can go on in people’s brains and physically and mentally affect them.
For our end of semester project, we were told to pick any topic we had talked about throughout the semester and teach the class some more about it by writing a paper about it and creating a presentation to present to the class. I chose Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Females. The reason I chose this is because I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and that I don’t notice it as much in males so I wanted to compare and contrast the two genders. It was interesting to find out that in females our menstrual cycles can affect the onset of symptoms of OCD. In males, many of their symptoms of OCD are related to tic disorders such as ADHD. I very much enjoyed this project because it related to me personally. The hardest part for me was standing in front of the class and explaining my personal experience with this disorder and how it affects me daily without people noticing.
