In April of 2022, I travelled to Roanoke College to present at the annual Virginia Conference on Race. My presentation was connected to my internship as a research assistant to Project Illuminate, a project to build community and tell the stories of Black veterans and their experiences with patriotism, racism, and returning home from war. My presentation focused on the social and political climate of the United States which affected the accessibility of social programs for Black veterans returning home from war.
