Letter to my Senior Self

Dear Senior Self,

Congrats, you are almost finished with your undergraduate degree. I know this may not have been an easy road, but look at you now. You have surpassed every obstacle and you have grown into a well equipped student and citizen.  I know that I am already super proud of all you have accomplished and will continue to accomplish.

I remember our first college obstacle was just going to an out of state school. We have always wanted to do this and finally get out of the small town of Washington, NJ, but look at us having chosen a school in an even smaller town. There was still a lot of anxiety about going somewhere and not knowing anyone though. However, we were able to get through this very easily with the help of the Honors Leadership Retreat, and we made friendships in the first few days, that I know will last forever. Being welcomed into the Honors and later the larger Longwood communities opened so many doors for us to get involved, and I only hope more doors have continued to appear throughout the years.

I know I love Farmville and I hope you still do. Have you gotten more involved in community service in town? What types of projects have you completed? I hope you were able to go to some of the service retreats that honors provides.

I also hope that despite the craziness going on in the world today (COVID-19) you are able to study or intern abroad, make the most unforgettable memories, and learn so much more about the world around you. I know that college is not meant to be easy but I also hope you have taken advantage of the resources on campus to do your very best. Maybe we even made President’s List once or more. I hope you have kept setting academic goals.

Most of all, I hope you keep your passion and strengths. Remember at the beginning of your freshman, when you took the StrengthQuest test for the Honors Retreat. The strengths listed there were includer, restorative, belief, developer, and arranger. I think these were great results for who you were that summer, but remember that personal growth is also one of your goals. Maybe retake that test and see if your results are the same or if you have developed your other strengths.

I will forever support your goals and trust you to make the right decisions on your path to graduation and beyond. Remember to stay true to yourself and move ever forward.

Sincerely,

Your Freshman Self
