Social Entrepreneurship and the Global Citizen (CTZN 110)

Within the first week of this course my classmates and I brainstormed issues that we felt our communities faced, then were grouped by which we felt was most important. My group focused on healthcare, and over the course of the semester narrowed it down to the lack of healthcare readily available to college students, especially in rural areas. As I mentioned, this was done at the very beginning of the semester and these groups would stay for the entirety of the semester with assignments that built upon themselves until our final.

This was interesting, because while there were certain assignments all groups had to complete, we created our own final. Below, you can view the script for my group’s final, which was a pitch for our product BOXE, our solution to the lack of healthcare. Within this script we mentioned the other assignments completed such as identifying an issue, creating a survey and completing data collection/analysis, creating a solution, identifying competitors, and pricing our product. By completing this process, I learned so much about healthcare issues facing college students, gained so much confidence bringing my ideas to life, and was encouraged to use a level of creativity and imagination that normally is not encouraged in higher levels of education. I think that encouraging creativity and not being afraid to fail is an important lesson that many students forget over the years.

To sum up, this course helped me see that I am able to make a difference in my community by being able to identify a problem and work to find a realistic solution.
