In previous years of schooling, I have taken U.S. government and politics classes, and going into this course felt that I would know most if not all of the information already. While I did know some of the information, I was pleasantly surprised that I was still able to be introduced to new information. This course fulfilled my human behavior and social institutions pillar, and discussed voting trends and what affects voter turnout as well has which side of the political spectrum is elected.
Other than exams, there were two book reviews written for this class, one of which can be viewed below. This book and the review helped me to look at political party affiliation and voting trends in a different way. For example, I have learned about and observed that certain political parties are more popular in certain areas, but this assignment and class helped me to put reasoning behind why this occurs. This information as well as other material from this class, helps me to not only become a better political science major, but a better, more informed citizen in general because I can identify these patterns and understand them.
