Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 101)

In previous years of education, I had taken a class that was an introduction to multiple types of social sciences and had a section on psychology. I based my expectations for this course on that previous experience, but was pleasantly surprised when this course was much different, and more scientific. Which makes sense as this course fulfilled my scientific reasoning pillar.

However, while I enjoyed the learning the course material, this was in some ways maybe the most challenging course of my freshman year since the first few tests were all open ended questions. It seemed that no matter how hard I studied nor how confident I was in my answers, my answers never seemed to be correct. I remember my first test, which I received the worst grade I ever have before, I was so disappointed in myself, yet I did not know what I could have done to better prepare. So for all the classes in preparation for the second exam, I asked every single question that popped in my head and wrote and rewrote super detailed notes. When the second test results came in and I had not done much better, it is probably clear that I was frustrated.

It soon became clear to me that maybe I am just a better test taker on a different style test. Low and behold, when the next test included a mix of true and false, multiple choice, and other styles of questions, I passed the tests with high grades. This class taught me that it important to understand how you learn best and to never give up and always work the hardest you can because one day that hard work will pay off.

Seen below is a study analysis I completed for this class, where I had to use a study assigned by the professor to answer four open ended questions about the scientific method used in the study. I have included this paper because given the earlier results form this class, I had anxiety about answering these open ended question. However, since I had become more confident in my learning abilities and the material, I was able to receive a high grade on this paper.
