Goal 3.4

In this reflection I will be discussing my growth in collaborating effectively in a group setting within the discipline. I have always been a lone wolf in my projects however in all my classes my professors have told me that collaborative group work is an important skill to master because I will be going through it so often. My first taste of something going wrong in a group work was when I was in a group for BIOL 251 and after all groups were made, one of our group member dropped the class this made our group go from a group of 4 to a group of 3.. We still continued the project because it was an issue that my group mates would constantly bring up as an excuse to why we did not finish things on time. This would constantly get on my nerves. However, I had no say because both my group mates agreed to use it as an excuse so i was out numbered. I did not let this happen again in BIOL 341 when one of our group mate dropped the class. This made our group go from a group of 3 to a group of 4. I did not let this effect the group my reassuring my groupmate that we could finish it by ourselves without any help. What I learned from this experiment is that sometimes you need to speak up and even when you are out numbered and that sometimes a little confidence is all you need in order to finish a project strong and not make excuses. I am most proud of my ability to speak up because i have always been shy however I could not be shy anymore because my grade depended on it. If I had more confidence then I would have told my group mates from BIOL 251 that we did not need the fourth member and that we could not use that excuse so that is something I would do differently. I will definitely take this acquired skill when I go to work at PPD after graduation to hold my work colleagues accountable for work that we need to get done so that no excuses are made and work is done.
