Professional Activity Spring Semester 2016 and 2017: Relay for Life

March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017

Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society Fundraiser to raise money for cancer research.  From 2005 to 2015 I participated in Relay for Life for my gymnastics team.  I encouraged people to donate and assist my gymnastics team at the event.  My gymnastics team raised over $25,000, a record in Loudoun County for several years in a row.  This year, I assisted in raising money for this fundraiser for Longwood University.  I encouraged people to donate and assisted the Student Nurses Association, Honors Student Association, and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority at the event.

This event is important to me because as a nurse it is important to raise awareness for cancer because it impacts so many people in the world.  Participating in Relay for Life satisfies my choice for becoming a nurse because of the way it helps so many people.  I feel relay for lifeproud to be a part of this important fundraiser for so many years.

This event is very important to me because of how many times my family has been impacted by cancer.  In 2017 at Relay, I decided to donate my hair so that it could be made into a wig.  I felt so happy after I cut my hair as I knew it would make someone very happy.  This shows that I can help people in many other ways than just nursing.  Because I am a nursing student, this event means so much more to me because I see directly how cancer can impact a patient.  This is one of my favorite events and I am so happy to participate in it every year.
