Spanish 212

Spanish 212, or “Intermediate Integrated Language and Culture,” is a mid-level Spanish education course offered at Longwood University. In this class, proper use of Spanish was emphasized, mostly through expanding Spanish vocabulary and proper conjugation of verbs into the past, present, and future tense. Also, diverse Latinx and Hispanic cultures were presented respectfully. As this class did not require the completion of any significant papers or projects, my artifact from this class is one of my homework assignments posing questions regarding the “Quipu,” or an ancient measuring system invented by the Inca people. Although it is entirely in Spanish, it displays my mastery of the language through my proper terminology, conjugation, and my reading comprehension to effectively answer the questions presented.

I have always enjoyed learning foreign languages, and this class was no exception. It allowed me to think outside of the box and explore a culture that is different from my own. Additionally, the language allowed me to communicate with others more effectively. This class has huge implications for my future as a social worker. Knowing how to speak Spanish is a massive benefit to any employer, and will allow me easier communication with clients. Also, the understanding of other cultures could assist in my judgement as a social worker. For example, a traditional family behavior that might seem odd to most Americans would perhaps make more sense.
