History 126, or “World History II,” is a beginner-level history course offered at Longwood University. This class focused heavily on the impact of religion and cultural events on the people that lived them. My artifact from this class is my end-of-year paper, where I compared a modern-day IDP event to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was in full force at the time. Here, I effectively draw comparisons between an actual IDP situation and the pandemic by analyzing what is important and its impact on people, therefore suggesting full mastery of the course material.
As with History 151, I found this class immensely enjoyable. I had never thought to compare culture and religion’s impacts on the people who lived in these situations, so this class was immensely thought-provoking as well. I can see this course becoming very influential to my career as a social worker. Now that I understand the role of religion and culture during tough events, I can better understand the importance of peoples’ traditions and religious beliefs and how they can be supportive during a crisis.
