History 151, or “Historical Inquiry II – Faith in the West,” is a beginner-level history class offered at Longwood University. The class focused heavily on the idea of trust in one’s nation, and the effects of different governmental styles, historical events, and even other people on their citizens. My artifact from this course is a paper I wrote on the impact of Florence Nightingale on the Nursing field, and by extension, the world. This paper, therefore, serves to show my understanding of the class, as I can effectively analyze one person’s impact on the world around her through this paper.
This class was not what I expected from its name, but I loved it. I have always been a diligent history student, and I was taught so much about how an event that seems minor to us probably was earth-shattering hundreds of years ago. As a result, I see this course being influential to my social work career in many ways. Perhaps the most prominent, though, is the ripple effect I learned from this class – while my actions may seem insignificant to me, it can change the world of so many others.
