Community

Between the Honors, Athletics, and general campus communities, I feel like I have found a true home here at Longwood. I can remember many occasions when my RA in Wheeler would put on some fun event or bonding activity. Sometimes these were planned, but other times they were spur-of-the-moment. About two weeks before finals, I remember returning to my room when a voice from down the hall called “Hey Noel, you wanna come to lancer park with us for a water balloon fight?”

I feel fortunate to be able to contribute what I can to the Longwood community, especially that of honors. By all housing in the same dorm freshman year, I feel that Honors Students of the class of “22 have become a close-knit family. For the past three years, the community on campus has been an open and welcoming resource for me, both in and out of the classroom.

Of course, maintaining a connection with the community has been tricky during the pandemic – even impossible at times. The ability to adapt and make-do through virtual events, etc. has been paramount and I have been both impressed and encouraged by the number of virtual and socially-distanced events that have been held around Longwood.
