ENGL 215 – Frontier Adventures

Although ENGL 215: Frontier Adventures was largely reading and comprehension based, we did have to write essays discussing our readings at a few different points. From a chronicle of some of the very first Spanish explorers to some of Jack London’s short stories, the class spanned a huge time period of North American Frontier.

In this particular essay, we were tasked with selecting one of the main characters from Death Comes for the Archbishop by Mary Rowlandson and comparing them to characters in some of our other readings.  You can read the essay for the analysis itself, but I learned a great deal about the changing cultures in early American society from reading these narratives and accounts. By specifically comparing specific characters and their responses to certain situations, I think that you can learn more about them than you may get from the initial reading.

“Father Vaillant and the Great Frontier” – the essay in which I discuss and compare characters from different readings in our class.
