Chem 111 counts for the Scientific Reasoning Pillar. For the most part, CHEM 111 served as a refresher course for what I learned in high school. Although largely quiz-based, the weekly lab offered a great opportunity to get hands-on with the concepts we were covering in class.
Many of the lab situations we dealt with while we were still on campus had to do with atomic weight and how it changed through the combination of various elements and compounds. This specific lab dealt with the varying densities of different kinds of soda. We discovered that diet soda is marginally less dense than the regular variety, and we hypothesized that this is due to the fact that artificial sweeteners are stronger, and thus used in smaller quantities.
