Learning to write press releases was an enjoyable experience as a writer. In the English program (both in literature- and writing-focused courses), I am often asked to expand upon information. Press releases, which contain minimal information with almost no “fluff,” are drastically different from this norm. Thus, learning to apply my writing abilities to meet these new demands was a valuable endeavor. Additionally, since I took ENGL 470 while also interning at Prince Edward County Public Schools, I was able to apply these skills to a real-life context. I quickly became the intern in charge of writing press releases for the district.
